State police have charged a North Union man with killing his 20-month old daughter.
Domer Wade Burkholder Jr., 30, of 600 Washington Ave., was arrested and charged with criminal homicide, according to a news release issued Friday night.
State police spokeswoman Ellen McElroy said the Uniontown Hospital emergency room reported Friday afternoon that the child, Caylee Burkholder, was treated for severe internal injuries that were “most likely the result of physical abuse.”
The girl was transferred to UPMC Children’s Hospital but later died of the injuries, which state police say were inflicted Thursday night by Mr. Burkholder, who allegedly struck his daughter in the stomach. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office said the child’s mother witnessed Mr. Burkholder hitting the girl.
Mr. Burkholder was awaiting arraignment Friday night at the Fayette County Booking Center, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
